Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies

Soft Valentine’s Day sugar cookies decorated with simple pink and red icing. Perfect for parties, gifts, and baking fun.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract optional
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Icing:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring pink, red, white

Instructions
 

  • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using, and mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix just until dough forms.
  • Divide dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into Valentine shapes.
  • Place cookies on baking sheets 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
  • Cool cookies completely before decorating.
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
  • Color icing as desired and decorate cookies.
  • Let icing set before serving or storing.
