Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

unsalted butter
softened
1
cup
granulated sugar
1
large egg
2
teaspoons
vanilla extract
½
teaspoon
almond extract
optional

all-purpose flour

teaspoon
baking powder
½
teaspoon
salt
Icing:
2
cups
powdered sugar
2
–3 tablespoons milk
1
teaspoon
vanilla extract
Food coloring
pink, red, white
Instructions
Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using, and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix just until dough forms.
Divide dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into Valentine shapes.
Place cookies on baking sheets 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
Cool cookies completely before decorating.
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
Color icing as desired and decorate cookies.
Let icing set before serving or storing.
