Valentine Sugar Cookies

Soft Valentine sugar cookies decorated with simple icing and sprinkles. Perfect for Valentine’s Day parties and gifting.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Icing:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pink or red food coloring
  • Valentine sprinkles optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix just until dough forms.
  • Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  • Place cookies on baking sheet 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
  • Cool cookies completely before decorating.
  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
  • Color icing as desired and decorate cookies.
  • Let icing set before serving or packaging.

Notes

Do not overbake. Cookies should stay soft and pale.
Icing thickness can be adjusted by adding more milk or powdered sugar.
