Ultimate Creamy Baked Mac and Cheese

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz elbow macaroni
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

Instructions
 

  • Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan and stir in flour, cooking for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in milk and cream and cook until thickened.
  • Add cheeses and stir until melted and smooth.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Mix cooked pasta with cheese sauce until coated.
  • Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  • Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden.
  • Cool slightly and serve.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheese for best texture.
Do not overcook pasta.
Stir sauce continuously to avoid lumps.
