The Best Mozzarella Chicken

Juicy mozzarella chicken baked with marinara and Parmesan. Easy, cheesy, and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts about 2 pounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ cups marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella sliced
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Pat chicken breasts dry and season evenly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove skillet from heat. Spoon marinara sauce evenly over each chicken breast. Top with sliced mozzarella and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. Transfer skillet to oven and bake for 15–20 minutes until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.

Notes

Sear chicken before baking to lock in moisture and flavor. Use a meat thermometer for accurate doneness. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat gently before serving.
