milk or cream

large egg
1

heavy whipping cream

powdered sugar

lemon zest

tablespoon
lemon juice

vanilla extract

fresh strawberries
sliced

sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet.
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Cut in butter until crumbly.
Add milk and egg and mix into dough.
Shape into rounds and bake until golden.
Mix strawberries with sugar and set aside.
Whip cream with powdered sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla.
Slice shortcakes in half.
Layer strawberries and lemon cream between halves.
Top with more cream and strawberries and serve.
Notes
Use cold butter for flaky texture.
Assemble just before serving.
Use fresh strawberries for best flavor.
