Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20
  • 2 large yellow onions sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese optional
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce or chili flakes

Instructions
 

  • Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat.
  • Cook onions slowly until caramelized, then set aside.
  • Season ground beef with spices and form into patties.
  • Cook patties until browned and fully cooked.
  • Butter one side of each bread slice.
  • Place bread butter-side down in a pan.
  • Add cheese, beef patty, caramelized onions, and more cheese.
  • Top with another slice of bread.
  • Cook until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  • Slice and serve warm.

Notes

Cook onions slowly for best flavor.
Use medium heat to avoid burning bread.
Adjust spice level to taste.
