Steak Pie 

Irish Steak Pie

Irish steak pie with tender beef, rich gravy, and flaky crust. Easy comfort dinner recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ lbs beef chuck cubed
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup carrots sliced
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • ½ cup stout beer optional
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 sheet puff pastry or pie crust
  • 1 large egg for egg wash

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Brown beef in a pot over medium heat.
  • Add onion, carrots, and garlic and cook until softened.
  • Stir in flour and cook briefly.
  • Add broth, stout, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste.
  • Simmer for 45 to 60 minutes until beef is tender and sauce thickens.
  • Season with salt and pepper and let cool slightly.
  • Transfer filling to a baking dish.
  • Cover with pastry and seal edges.
  • Cut slits in top and brush with egg wash.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly and serve.

Notes

Use chuck beef for best tenderness.
Let filling cool before adding crust.
Replace stout with broth if desired.
