Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 –6 hamburger buns
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and bell pepper and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart until fully browned. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper over the chicken and stir to combine. Pour in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Stir thoroughly and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Lightly toast hamburger buns. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto buns and top with shredded cheddar cheese if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust Cajun seasoning to control heat level. Use sturdy buns to prevent sogginess. Store leftover filling in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently before serving.
