Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups shredded kataifi dough
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon tahini paste
  • ¾ cup pistachio cream
  • 1 cup milk chocolate or dark chocolate
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups fresh strawberries
  • Chopped pistachios for garnishing

Instructions

  • In a pan over medium heat, melt the butter and toast the kataifi dough until golden brown. Once golden, add in the tahini and pistachio cream. Mix until well combined. Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Once all the chocolate melts, add in the heavy cream and mix until the ganache is smooth. If you prefer your ganache more fluid, add 1 tablespoon more heavy cream at a time to reach the desired consistency. Wash and cut up the strawberries. At this point, you should have everything ready to layer your strawberry cups. Start layering the strawberry cups, placing each ingredient in layers and repeating the process until you fill the cups. Garnish with chopped pistachios and serve.

Notes

Use sweet strawberries for better flavor. Make your pistachio cream at home for a cleaner version, since store-bought pistachio cream often has additives and preservatives. It's best to make the chocolate ganache rather than using plain melted chocolate if you aren't eating right away, since melted chocolate hardens in the fridge. The heavy cream is always about half the amount of chocolate. Store all components separately and assemble each time you're ready to eat, so the ingredients stay fresh and crunchy. Make ahead and keep in the fridge for up to 2 days, though the strawberries change texture once combined. Fresh strawberries work best; avoid frozen. For variations, drizzle white chocolate over the dark, add gold sprinkles, or top with whipped cream.
