Classic Lebanese Cake (Sfouf)

Classic Lebanese Cake (Sfouf) with semolina, turmeric, and sesame seeds, a simple and traditional Middle Eastern dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups fine semolina
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cups milk or water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.
  • Mix semolina, flour, sugar, baking powder, turmeric, and salt in a bowl.
  • Add milk and oil and mix until smooth.
  • Pour batter into prepared dish and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden.
  • Let cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Use fine semolina for best texture.
Do not overmix batter.
Serve at room temperature for best flavor.
