Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread softened butter lightly on both sides of the bread slices. Press down the center of each slice gently with the back of a spoon to create a shallow well. Place bread on the baking sheet. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese around the edges of each well to form a ring. Crack one egg into the center of each slice. Season with salt and black pepper. Top with remaining cheese around the edges. Bake for 10–14 minutes until the egg is set to your desired doneness and the edges are golden and crispy. Remove from oven, sprinkle with parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Use thick, sturdy bread to hold the egg properly. Avoid overbaking if you prefer a runny yolk. Best served fresh for optimal crispness.
