These tiny cheesy taco sticks are the kind of enjoyable, comforting snack that makes you feel like you’re getting a warm embrace. They’re tasty, quick, and ideal for when you want a simple yet fun meal, such a little handheld taco covered in soft dough.
Components
1 (8 oz) tube of chilled pizza dough
ground beef weighing half a pound
1 tbsp taco mix
1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican mix)
1 tbsp melted butter for brushing
Alternative swap: Substitute plant-based crumbles or ground turkey for beef.
Steps
1.Prepare the beef. In a skillet, brown the ground beef, then add taco seasoning. Allow it to cool a little; the warm filling is easier to manage.
2.Get the dough ready. Roll out the pizza dough and cut it into eight little rectangles.
3.Fill up every stick. Place a sprinkle of cheese and a spoonful of taco flesh in the middle of each piece. Keep it to a minimum since minis are neater with less.
4.Roll and seal. Pinch the edges shut after folding the dough over the filling. They bake well even if they appear to be flawed.
5.Bake and brush. Put it on a lined baking sheet, brush lightly with melted butter, and bake it for 10 to 12 minutes at 400°F, or until it turns golden.
Chill a little bit. Give them a few minutes to rest so the cheese can firm up somewhat.
Tips from the Chef
Maintain a cold dough temperature: Chilled dough doesn’t stretch too thin and seals better.
Seal securely: As the cheese melts, apply strong pressure to the seams to keep it within.
Reheat wisely: Use the air fryer to heat up leftovers for three to four minutes, and they will become crispy again.
Variations
Spicy Version: For a mild heat, add some diced jalapeños to the inside.
Cheesy Supreme: For added creaminess, combine 1 tablespoon of cream cheese with the meat.
Mini Pizza Taco Sticks: For a fun twist, use a spoonful of mozzarella and salsa rather than cheddar.
