Ingredients
- 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
- 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari

- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp black pepper

- Season well. In a bowl, toss tofu with oil, soy sauce, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, and pepper until lightly coated.
- Air fry. Place tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook at 400°F for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and crisp.
- Rest briefly. Let it cool for 1–2 minutes it crisps up even more as it settles.
Chef’s Tips
- Don’t skip cornstarch: It’s the secret to that crispy exterior.
- Avoid overcrowding: Space helps the tofu air-fry instead of steam.
- Season after cooking: A light sprinkle of salt or sauce at the end makes the flavor pop.
Variations
- Buffalo tofu: Toss with buffalo sauce after air frying.
- Teriyaki tofu: Brush with teriyaki sauce during the last 2 minutes.
- Lemon pepper tofu: Add lemon zest and pepper right after cooking.
